REVIEW OF BLAENAVON'S 'ORTHODOX MAN'

Hampshire trio 'Blaenavon' are once again showing us their versatility in latest single 'Orthodox Man.'

With a stamp of approval and having their tracks regularly played by Radio 1 and music guru Hew Stephens, this band are already proving their status and with 'Orthodox Man' we witness the ever changing sound of 'Blaenavon'. The tracks begins with muted guitar strings whilst lead singer Ben Gregory wistfully whispers lyrics about a man who seems to be willing to change at the drop of a hat in order to pursue a girl.

With an introduction from a bass and snare drum, the song begins to pick up. Its upbeat tune seems to be rather ambiguous, even though the infections beat and sweet lyrics provides us with a sense of happiness and love, it also presents a dark side and suggests that this song of love is really about one man's sadness.

As the chorus kicks in a slight resemblance to the band Bombay Bicycle Club comes to mind, the tuneful rhythm guitar leads Gregory's voice, whilst a tambourine and high pitched angelic voices back the lead's voice up.

Blaenavon have shown their experimental side and fearlessness in their music, the only thing us fans are craving now is an album, but we may have to see what 2016 brings!
