Indie band from Reading, Sundara Karma, with help from their euphoric and refreshing take on typical indie songs, has lead to this four-piece storming to quick success with selling out most of the dates for their March tour and, oh my, what a great tour it was. Having attended only one date, which is probably the most intimate venue and definitely the most intimate gig I have been to, I can only speak on behalf of this one, but what an amazing experience and amazing night it was.
The venue itself being really small, there's no surprise to anybody as to why the whole crowd, as the gig progressed after the support acts, turned into one big mosh pit and I was honestly not expecting the crowd to be this good. Yes, I have to admit, it was a bit shit throughout the support acts as nobody was interested, but as soon as Sundara came on... that was it, all of them inexperienced mosh pit people were truly goners in this insane and extremely fun crowd.
It's rare with such a small band for the fans to be this dedicated, and to be chanting Sundara's name before they have even sound-checked (see what I did there) let alone before the gig has even started. Because of this, there was no surprise as to how the crowd reacted when they started playing the first few notes of their most recent released single 'A Young Understanding', and I don't know if Sundara Karma could have selected a better song to start the gig off with. A song which makes you want to dance and scream the lyrics at the top of your lungs, a song to get the crowd going and truly one of their best songs to date.
After just one song, and a very good start to the gig, one (quite drunk and slightly crazy) girl recklessly climbed the barrier and stage invaded to jump around and dance with Oscar, Dom, Hayden and Ally during the premier of one of their brand new songs (soon to be on their début album out this year) and as always with support from her fellow indie friends, she wasn't shy in drinking their water and playing their instruments while she was up there, and she truly looked like she was having the time of her life - in conjunction with all the other teens who went wishing that they could go up and do the same.
You could tell by the look on Sundara Karma's faces that they truly value the dedication and passion that their fans present to them, and it's amazing to see them gaze out to the crowd of overly rowdy, sweaty teens and smile from ear to ear, a smile of pure joy and love towards us. It's simply amazing to be there to experience this.
All I have to say is, if you ever get the opportunity to see Sundara Karma live, don't miss out because it will be one of the best gigs and the best nights of your life.
